Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say early analysis indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
